Caroni Bird Sanctuary

An exciting visit to the Caroni Swamp Bird Sanctuary, where upon arrival there will be a guided tour of the Visitor Centre. We then board a flat-bottomed boat to experience the thrill of journeying through a maze of mangrove lined waterways and lagoons. The Swamp, a Ramsar Site, is one of the most beautiful mangrove wetlands in the Western Hemisphere, and has a diverse wildlife. You may view fiddler crabs on the mudflats, the occasional spectacle caiman on the embankment, the silky anteater in the mangrove and a variety of the many species of birds that inhabit the swamp. As the sun sets, thousands of birds return from feeding grounds to roost for the night, including the famous Scarlet Ibis, the National Bird of Trinidad.
