Nariva Swamp

Situated on the east coast of Trinidad on the foothills of the Central Range it is the largest fresh water wetland in the Caribbean and has been named a Ramsar site which declares it an internationally important and recognized wetland. Stretching over 227 square kilometers, it is home to over 600 animal species, 171 different birds and 57 mammals including a colony of Manatees (Sea Cows, one of the last in the Caribbean.
